Poet, Activist, Painter.
Freek Wallagh (1998) is an Amsterdam poet, activist and painter. Starting his career at the age of 15 in the Red Light District, he writes about the communities and individuals that make the city as it is. Drag Queens, activist, sex workers, artist, the homeless: Wallagh acts as an emotional historian, chronicling the lives and challenges of those on the fringes of society. Last march, his work earned him the position of “Night Mayor”, elected by his peers to represent the Amsterdam night.
A performing poet by nature, he is heavily inspired by the punk, burlesque, drag and happenings in which he first emerged himself starting off on stage. The result is a show that’s heavily rhythmic, highly satirical, thought-provoking and pretty damn camp.
